Pike emergency management says residents can help road crew by staying off roads

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. – Residents of Pike County have made it through the worst of the winter storm, but can plan on sheltering in place through Wednesday, thanks to this week’s forecasted freezing temperatures. Nee Jackson, Emergency Management Director for Pike County, is asking that people stay off the roads so crews can work as efficiently as possible. Highway Department District 12: Primary roads still partially covered, work beginning on secondary roads

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Officials with the state highway department say workers are in the process of clearing roadways around the region in shifts, focusing on primary roads at this time. Gov. Beshear urges residents to avoid travel as bitter cold follows weekend winter storm

Andy Beshear, along with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray and Kentucky Emergency Management Director Eric Gibson, provided another update on severe winter weather affecting the commonwealth. Snow, sleet and ice have moved out of Kentucky, but Gov. Deputies arrest two, seize drugs, weapons and cash in Floyd raid

Evidence seized during Friday night's raid.PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Friday night drug raid in Floyd County led to multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs, firearms and cash. According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Big Branch of Bull Creek, where investigators found a quantity of illegal drugs, digital scales, several firearms and cash believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking. Two people inside the home were arrested as part of the drug investigation, while a third individual was taken into custody on outstanding warrants. Power outages grow, as winter storm continues

Snow and ice began taking their toll Sunday morning, resulting in power outages around the region. As of 10:30 a.m., Kentucky Power was reporting more than 2,600 customers without power. That number was up more than 2,000 from earlier in the day. Perry County had the most, with 852 customers without power, followed by Lawrence County with 573, and 531 in Pike. Appalachian Power was reporting more than 15,000 customers without power, including more than 8,000 in West Virginia and nearly 7,000 in Virginia.
