Judge denies lower bond for vehicular homicide defendant
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A man currently facing vehicular homicide charges for an alleged DUI crash last year that killed two Prestonsburg High School students will remain in jail under the same bond. Marcus Logan Auxier, 21, of Nippa, is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, three counts of wanton endangerment, three counts of first-degree assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is accused of being impaired in July 2023 when he crashed his vehicle with five other people in the car. Special judge, clerk appointed in Stines murder case
FRANKFORT, Ky. — A special judge has now been appointed to preside over the murder trial of former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Mickey Stines. Stines is charged with one count of murder for the shooting death of Letcher District Judge Kevin Mullins back in September. Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Laurance VanMeter has now appointed 8th Circuit Judge Christopher Cohron, of Bowling Green, to preside over the case. Man who allegedly got away from police last month finally arrested
STOPOVER, Ky. — A man who allegedly got away from police more than two weeks ago is now in jail. Back on Nov. 21, a state trooper spotted a pickup truck with no license plate and a broken windshield, with a four-wheeler following close behind. The officer attempted to pull over the truck, but both vehicles fled along Widows Branch, then onto an old strip job. Magoffin man charged with child rape, sex abuse
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A Magoffin County man has been arrested after being indicted on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse. Michael Young, 42, of Salyersville, was arrested on Friday. Court records do not elaborate on the allegations against him, except to say that the victim was younger than 12 years old. Young is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville on a $25,000 cash bond.

Man arrested after homeowners return to burglary in progress
INEZ, Ky. — A Martin County man has been arrested after residents of an Inez home said they found him leaving their house after breaking in. The residents told the Martin County Sheriff’s Office they returned home to find 50-year-old Ernest Jarvis running out the front door as they pulled into their driveway. They also said he had apparently cut wires to their security cameras, then broke in and rummaged through the house. The police report says when deputies made contact with him, Jarvis assumed an aggressive stance and indicated he would not be going anywhere with officers. It further […]
