Man wanted for attempted murder in Pike arrested in Buchanan County
HURLEY, Va. — A Pike County wanted since being indicted on arson, attempted murder and kidnapping charges in January, has been arrested in Virginia. Marty Eugene Hurley, 50, of Stopover, is accused of forcing three people into a trailer, setting it on fire, and locking them inside. The victims were able to escape, but all suffered burns and smoke inhalation. One of the victims had to be intubated due to severe smoke inhalation. Police raid business, arrest two in Mingo cable theft investigation
WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Sheriff’s deputies raided a Mingo County business and arrested two people, following a months-long investigating into cable theft. The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police served a search warrant at Big Frank’s Salvage Yard in Williamson. The raid was the result of an investigation into telecommunications cable theft that produced multiple reports that the business was purchasing stolen cable for cash. The investigation also used an undercover operative to sell cable at the business on numerous occasions without any problem. Former inmate charged with murder at USP Big Sandy
ASHLAND, Ky. — A former inmate at the Martin County federal prison who was indicted last month for assaulting guards at the facility has now been charged with murder. Daviian Dwane Roberts, 35, formerly of Midland, Texas, is now charged with murder for allegedly killing fellow inmate Michael Smith in October of 2024. Last month, he was charged with three counts of assaulting USP Big Sandy correctional officers after being accused of attack three guards with a weapon in March of 2025. Pikeville man arrested on child porn charge
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man arrested last year following accusations of sexual assaults targeting female college students in the city parking garage was arrested again Thursday, this time charged with possessing child porn. Terry Weston Rogers, 29, of Pikeville, was arrested just after 5 p.m. by Pikeville Police. The arrest warrant accuses Rogers of having more than 1-thousand photos depicting sexual performances by a minor on his phone. Rogers is currently being held on a $250,000 bond in the Pike County Detention Center.

KSP investigates fatal Pike ambulance crash
ASHCAMP, Ky. — Kentucky State Police is investigating after a passenger died of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday. Police say Matthew Corbett was operating a 2020 Ford Transit ambulance owned by Lifeguard EMS along Route 197 at Ashcamp just before 4 p.m., when the vehicle left the road and overturned. Douglas Jones, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital. He later died. Trooper Terry Mounts is in charge of the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Post 9 personnel, the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department, and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
