Two arrested for shooting death of Pike man
STEELE, Ky. — Two men have been arrested out of state, accused of killing a man in Pike County. Kentucky State Police responded to a shooting Saturday on Laurel Fork at Steele. There, they found the body of Christopher Lester, 42, of Steele, dead of gunshot wounds. The investigation identified two suspects, Michael Brown, 41, of Feds Creek, and Anthony Clyde Browning, 30, of Thacker, W.Va., who have both now been arrested. Mingo man admits taking nude pics of 3-year-old
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Mingo County man faces at least 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to federal child porn charges. Cameron Drake Newsome, 25, of Williamson, pleaded guilty Jan. 3 to one count of producing child pornography. In doing so, he admitted to using his cell phone to take two photographs of a 3-year-old’s genitals. He also admitted to storing those pictures in an online account where he had stored numerous other child porn photos and videos. Floyd man arrested for shooting dog
AUXIER, Ky. — A Floyd County man has been arrested on a felony charge of torturing an animal after police say he shot a neighbor’s dog on the neighbor’s property. Deputies were called to the scene of the shooting on Ford’s Gap Road in Auxier. When they arrived, the neighbor told police that his son was outside with their dog, when Austin Sykes, 19, walked onto their property, said he was going to shoot their dog, then fired a 9 mm handgun twice, hitting the dog once behind its head. Two-thirds of power outages now resolved
Utility crews have made significant progress restoring power around the region over the past 24 hours, with outages now totaling less than a third of what they were at their height. Fewer than 6,000 customers are now without power across the service areas of Kentucky Power, Big Sandy RECC and Licking Valley RECC. That’s down from more than 21,000 on Monday. That improvement extended to Johnson County, which was the hardest hit county in the region. At the height of the outage, Johnson County had more than 5,400 customers without power. Johnson man asks to change plea in federal drug case
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Johnson County man who was arrested back in June after police raided his home and found more than a pound-and-a-half of meth is now expected to enter a guilty plea in federal court. Edward Carl Ramey, 46, of Paintsville, is currently charged with distributing meth, possession of more than 500 grams of meth with the intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
