Pike man indicted on federal drug and gun charges
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been arrested, one month after being indicted on federal drug and gun charges. Isaiah “Jay” Harrell, 20, of Ransom, is charged with possession of more than 500 grams of meth and more than 40 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, as well as using a gun in a drug trafficking crime. Harrell was initially arrested back in September, when he was a passenger in a car that was pulled over at Sidney. Prosecutor wants limits to defendant’s visits to his restaurant
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The prosecutor in the Amber Spradlin murder case is pushing for limits to one defendant’s visits to the restaurant he co-owns. Earlier this month, Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner filed a motion asking for guidance on whether it is appropriate for Michael McKinney to be visiting the Brickhouse Restaurant, which he co-owns, while out on work release. McKinney is charged with eight counts of evidence tampering for allegedly attempting to conceal the identity of Spradlin’s killer. His son, M.K. McKinney, is charged with her murder. Pike woman killed in crash
VIRGIE, Ky. — A Pike County woman is dead, following a crash Monday evening. It happened just after 6 p.m. on Penny Highway, at Virgie. Kentucky State Police says Susan Belcher was driving a 2013 Jeep Cherokee along the road, when she crossed the center line and struck a 2017 Kia Sorento driven by Mina Pinson, 78, of Harrison Newsome Branch. Pinson died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.

Attorney argues McKinney has legitimate need to visit Brickhouse
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The attorney for a Prestonsburg dentist charged in connection with the Amber Spradlin murder has responded to a prosecution request for additional clarification about his work-release requirements, and he agrees that more clarity is needed. Spradlin’s body was found in the Arkansas Creek home of Dr. Michael McKinney on June 18, 2023.She had been stabbed at least 12 times in the neck and head. McKinney’s son, M.K. Pikeville man charged with possessing child porn
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville man was arrested Monday evening, charged with possession of child pornography. Lonnie James Maynard, 53, was arrested at his home by Kentucky State Police just after 5:30 and charged with 10 counts of possession of child porn. The charge carries a potential sentence of 5-to-10 years in prison. Few other details about the case were made public in court records, except that the material was found on Maynard’s electronic devices last week and the victims in the case were younger than 12.
