Floyd men found with mining equipment after police chase
McDOWELL, Ky. — Two Floyd County man were arrested after leading police on a chase on a snow-covered road, which ended with the discovery of stolen mine equipment in their truck. A state trooper patrolling in McDowell ran a plate on a truck and discovered the driver had his license suspended for a fourth-offense DUI violation, so he attempted to pull it over. Pike man’s drug case picked up in federal court
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man arrested on drug charges in Floyd County last year has now seen his case bumped up to federal court. Back on Aug. 26, a sheriff’s deputy spotted Keith Long, 30, of Wolfpit Branch, driving along U.S. 23 at Harold, towing a pressure washer. The deputy noted Long’s vehicle was half-off the road, so he pulled him over. Noting that Long seemed nervous, the deputy brought in a K-9 unit to sniff around the car, and the dog immediately alerted on the driver’s side of the truck. Guard’s guilty plea reveals ‘unofficial policy’ to abuse inmates at USP Big Sandy
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A prison guard at the U.S. Penitentiary Big Sandy in Martin County has pleaded guilty to federal charges related a prison policy to abuse inmates seeking protection. Terry Melvin, who worked at the prison as a lieutenant, pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy against rights and deprivation of civil rights from early 2021 to March 2022. Pike man charged with stealing more than $100,000 worth of mining equipment
KIMPER, Ky. — A Pike County man is facing a felony theft charge, after police say they found him with more than $100,000 worth mine equipment at his house. Kentucky State Police received a call Jan. 18 from the night watchman at McCoy Elkhorn Coal, located at Kimper. The guard reported a man who had been seen on the property on several occasions when copper wire and mining equipment had been stolen had returned overnight.
