Judge denies murder suspect’s second request for bond reduction
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A man accused of shooting and killing another man at the Auxier bridge back in April will not see his bond reduced, a judge ruled on Thursday. Larry Johnson, 68, of Auxier, is charged with murder for the April 25 shooting of Steven Adkins, 48, of Prestonsburg, while the two argued near the Auxier bridge. Johnson has been held on a $1 million cash bond since his arrest. He unsuccessfully asked to have it reduced back in August, but his attorney, Ned Pillersdorf, filed another motion for a bond reduction after reviewing evidence in the case. According […]

Pike couple arrested after police say they fled from injury accident
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County couple has been arrested on felony charges, after they allegedly fled from a crash on U.S. 23. The incident happened just after 3 p.m., Wednesday, near the entrance to Ratliff’s Creek Road. Witnesses said a truck was pulling a trailer when one of the trailer’s tires flew off and crashed into the windshield of an SUV, causing serious injury to the driver. Text scam promises $250 but steals your personal information
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky officials are warning residents about a new texting scam making the rounds across the state. The message claims Kentuckians can receive a $250 payment by completing a short survey, but the link included is designed to steal personal information. Report: Ky., W.Va. lead nation in smoking, new lung cancer cases
A new report on lung cancer has mixed news for Central Appalachian states. The American Lung Association says Kentucky and West Virginia continue to have the nation’s highest lung cancer rates — and the highest smoking rates — according to its 2025 State of Lung Cancer report. Kentucky ranks worst in the nation for new lung cancer cases, while West Virginia ranks second.
