15th Region player to watch: Pike Central Hawk Jonah Hicks

Jonah Hicks is the definition of a two-sport star.   The baseball and football standout for the Pike Central Hawks is looking to build off an incredible freshman year heading into baseball season. Jonah has been playing baseball at an elite level for the Hawks since his eighth-grade year. Now a sophomore, Hicks is known as one of the best two-way players in the 15th region.   The Pitcher/Shortstop can really do it all on the diamond; his numbers with the Hawks in his first two seasons are impressive to say the least. As an 8th grader he hit .357 with 18 RBI and 16 stolen bases while also pitching 43.2 innings, striking out 56 batters.  The jump he made to […]

Former Magoffin teacher pleads guilty to charges related to sexual texts with student

Jordan CobbSALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A former Magoffin County middle school teacher has pleaded guilty a second time to charges related to sexual messages he sent to a 14-year-old student. Jordan Cobb, 32, of Salyersville, pleaded guilty Thursday to procuring the use of a minor by electronic means and harassing communications in Magoffin Circuit Court. He admitted to engaging in a conversation with a 14-year-old former student over Snapchat in May of 2023. Pehlps man facing several felony charges after domestic incident with gun

Ronald CootsPHELPS, Ky. — A Pike County man is facing burglary, wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment and other charges, after his wife reported him for trying to kill everyone in the house because he believed he had been poisoned. Ronald Coots, of Phelps, is being held in the Pike County jail. Police were called to his house on Friday, March 13, after his wife reported he was outside with a gun threatening to kill people. Funeral services set for Lucas & Son founder

Jack LucasPIKEVILLE, Ky. — The founder and longtime owner of a Pikeville funeral home has died. Jack Lucas died on Wednesday at the age of 83. Best known as founder, owner and funeral director of Lucas & Son Funeral Home, his career took him into other fields, as a store manager for Maloney’s and Gibson’s department stores, a leading salesman for Thompson’s Chemical Supply, and founder of East Kentucky Chemical Company. MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State treks east to take on the Radford Highlanders in the opening round of the WNIT Friday evening in Radford, Va.
