Floyd County reports another case of whooping cough

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — For the second time in four days, the Floyd County Health Department is notifying the public of a confirmed case of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. In a letter to residents, Floyd County Public Health Director Martha Ellis said the latest case brings the total number of cases in the county to five. Pertussis is a highly-contagious respiratory illness that can be dangerous for infants, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Louisa woman arrested for heroin, fentanyl trafficking

Rita NapierLOUISA, Ky. — A search of a Lawrence County woman’s home resulted in the discovery of a large amount of heroin and fentanyl. Rita Faye Napier, 66, of Louisa, now faces charges of aggravated trafficking in heroin and fentanyl, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. During a raid of her home early Friday morning, Louisa Police Department seized more than 100 grams of heroin and 22 grams of fentanyl, along with several sets of digital scales and multiple plastic bags. Because of the amounts involved, each of the trafficking charges carries a potential sentence of 10-to-20 years in prison. […]

Lady Eagles Roll Past Shelby Valley, Move to 3-0

The Johnson Central Lady Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season with a 77-35 win over the Shelby Valley Lady Kats on Saturday. Johnson Central had two players score in double figures, led by Karlea Stanley with 17 points. Stanley shot 50 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range, while going 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
