PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — For the second time in four days, the Floyd County Health Department is notifying the public of a confirmed case of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. In a letter to residents, Floyd County Public Health Director Martha Ellis said the latest case brings the total number of cases in the county to five. Pertussis is a highly-contagious respiratory illness that can be dangerous for infants, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. LOUISA, Ky. — A search of a Lawrence County woman’s home resulted in the discovery of a large amount of heroin and fentanyl. Rita Faye Napier, 66, of Louisa, now faces charges of aggravated trafficking in heroin and fentanyl, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. During a raid of her home early Friday morning, Louisa Police Department seized more than 100 grams of heroin and 22 grams of fentanyl, along with several sets of digital scales and multiple plastic bags. Because of the amounts involved, each of the trafficking charges carries a potential sentence of 10-to-20 years in prison. […]
