Kentucky Power asks PSC to spread winter storm fuel charge out across three months
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Power is asking the Public Service Commission for a permission to spread out January’s fuel adjustment charge in order to make winter heating bills a little easier on customers. Beginning the last week of January, Eastern Kentucky experienced a prolonged cold spell that saw temperatures remain below freezing for two weeks. The last week of January saw nightly low temperatures range between 3 and 15 degrees. That cold weather resulted in increased demand, which pushed the cost of natural gas higher. Allen named Acting-Coach of The David School varsity basketball team
Former Prestonsburg High School basketball standout Sherri Allen is taking the reins for the school. DAVID, Ky. – At one point, The David School had gone a quarter of a century without a basketball team. Now they not only have a team, but a new acting-head coach, and a local basketball legend at that. Sherri Allen, a former basketball standout at Prestonsburg High School, accepted the position this past week. Retired miners say coal company reneged on promise of lifetime health care
ABINGDON, Va. — A dozen retired coal miners are suing a Buchanan County mining company, claiming the company broke its promise to provide them with health care for life. The former miners filed suit against Jewell Smokeless Coal Corporation in Buchanan Circuit Court back in November. Those cases have now been removed to federal court in Abingdon and consolidated. The miners include: The men all say they were promised lifetime medical benefits for themselves and their dependents if they retired from the company after reaching the age of 55 and 15 years of service.
