Deadline to register to vote in primary nears

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentuckians have less than a week to register to vote in next month’s primary election. If folks miss the April 22 deadline, residents can still register to vote in the presidential election this fall. Laura Weinstein, chair of the League of Women Voters of Kentucky, is encouraging people to take action now. Voters will need to bring photo identification to the polls. A list of acceptable forms of identification is on the Secretary of State’s website. Low-flying planes lead to false reports of plane crashes

HAZARD, Ky. — Authorities say there there have been no plane crashes in Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, despite receiving numerous reports of the accidents throughout the day. Kentucky State Police says the U.S. Geological Survey is currently conducting ground mapping of the region, using military aircraft. To conduct the mapping, the planes have to fly very low to the ground, leading some to mistakenly believe they have seen a plane go down. Kentucky State Police Post 13 issued a statement Tuesday afternoon confirming that there have been no plane crashes in the region.

Man arrested for fentanyl trafficking following traffic stop

Zachary Wayne MasonPRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Maysville man was arrested in Prestonsburg early Sunday morning, after a traffic stop turned up a sizable quantity of fentanyl. A Prestonsburg police officer was patrolling just after midnight, when a deputy radioed him to let him know that the car behind him had been involved in drug trafficking in the past. The officer allowed the car to pass him, then ran the vehicle’s plate. He learned that the owner of the car had a suspended license, so he pulled it over. The shrinking supply of child-care workers continues to impact Kentucky, and advocates say helping more people receive a Child Development Associate degree could fill critical gaps in child care and early learning — especially in rural regions. Perry prosecutor accused of providing favorable treatment in exchange for drugs, sex

Scott BlairHAZARD, Ky. — The Perry County commonwealth’s attorney has been arrested after being accused of using his position to obtain sex and drugs from defendants his office was prosecuting. Scott Blair, 51, is charged in federal court with one count of honest services wire fraud. An affidavit filed by the investigating officer alleges Blair would communicate with defendants over Facebook Messenger and would offer to help them in exchange for meth or sexual favors.
